Orillia Volkswagen
345 West Street South, Orillia, ON, L3V 5H1Volkswagen has spent the last decade building practical, family-friendly SUVs that prioritize space and value over flash. The Atlas was never the boldest design in the segment, but it delivered where it mattered - three rows that actually fit adults, a cabin that could handle family life, and a sensible price. The 2027 model changes the equation. This is the first time Volkswagen has given the Atlas design confidence and interior refinement that makes you stop and look twice. The sheet metal is all new, the cabin is completely reimagined, and the details - double-stacked LED headlights, real wood trim, 30-colour ambient lighting on upper trims - signal a shift in priorities. This is still a family SUV, but it no longer looks or feels like it's apologizing for it.
The 2027 Atlas is the second generation of Volkswagen's three-row SUV, built on the upgraded MQB Evo architecture. It's slightly longer than the outgoing model while maintaining the same height, width, and wheelbase - preserving the spacious third row that made the original Atlas a standout. What's new is the level of finish. The cabin uses soft-touch surfaces, real wood décor across all trims, and a more deliberate design language. The shift lever has moved to the steering column, freeing up space in a larger centre console designed for family life - charging cables, water bottles, snacks, and daily clutter. This is a vehicle designed for buyers who want a premium experience without a luxury badge.
The 2027 Atlas looks like a different vehicle from the front. Double-stacked LED headlights replace the previous generation's conventional setup, and a masked upper grille gives the face a cleaner, more modern look. The hood is more pronounced, projecting a confident stance that was missing before. On all but the base trim, double light lines and an illuminated VW badge are standard - making the Atlas instantly recognizable at night and adding a premium feel previously reserved for higher-end models.
In profile, the proportions are stronger. A sharp theme line runs along the upper body sides, augmented by sculpted fenders and side sills that give the Atlas a more athletic stance. Illuminated door handles are available, along with puddle lamps that project a unique pattern. At the back, the spoiler is more pronounced, and the tailgate sits flush with the rear bumper for a cleaner shape. The cross-body taillight design mirrors the front lighting signature, and dynamic turn signals with three animations add refinement that wasn't part of the Atlas story before.
New wheel designs range from 18 to 21 inches, with machined alloy and black finishes available. Three new exterior colours join the lineup: Blackberry, Boreal Green, and Ascot Grey - sophisticated, understated choices that fit the Atlas's new design direction.
The interior is where the 2027 Atlas makes its strongest case. A bold architectural loop unifies the cockpit, flowing from the displays through the vents and lighting in one continuous statement. Everything feels intentional - the shift lever on the steering column, the revised door handles, the artistically designed upholstery on the door panels. This cabin was designed to feel like a step up.
Real wood décor is standard across all trims, and two leather choices are available on upper models - Varenna and Nappa. The interior uses contrasting colours and stitching throughout, with three colour palettes: Mistral (light and airy), Soul Black, and an all-new Garnet Red. Even the standard leatherette on the base trim feels more refined than the previous generation.
The ambient lighting system is one of the most distinctive features. A 10-colour setup is standard, and the top two trims receive 30 colour options along with an "Atmospheres" feature that coordinates lighting and audio settings. On most trims, ambient lighting flows through the dashboard loop and front footwells. On the top two trims, an organic spiral pattern twists through advanced perforated backlit door panels in the first and second rows - a detail that feels more concept car than family SUV.
The base trim receives a 12.9-inch infotainment display, while all other trims get a 15-inch screen - one of the largest in the segment. All models feature Volkswagen's 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro configurable gauge cluster. A new Driver Experience Dial in the centre console controls audio volume, drive modes, and the Atmospheres feature on upper trims - a physical control in an era where most automakers are moving everything to touchscreens.
The centre console has room for two cellphones to charge side by side with updated Qi2 wireless charging, and seven USB-C ports are available throughout the vehicle. This is practical tech that matters in a family SUV - not just headline features, but details that make daily life easier.
New air vents in the B pillars and available second-row seat ventilation improve comfort. Drivers benefit from a revised 12-way ergonomic seat with enhanced 4-way lumbar support on all models. On upper trims, drivers get thigh support, and four-way massage is available on both front seats. Captain's chairs and a panoramic sunroof remain available on the top two trims. The easy-access function for the third row - which allows the second row seats to tilt and slide out of the way, even with LATCH car seats installed - carries over from the previous generation.
The base trim receives a 9-speaker audio system, while the top two trims get a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. Front and rear Park Distance Control is now standard on the base trim, and the latest version of Park Assist Plus is added to the top trim.
A new front centre airbag brings the total airbag count to seven, and the 2027 Atlas features refinements to the standard suite of IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology. The Travel Assist feature, which enables semi-automated hands-on driving capability from 0 to 150 km/h, has been upgraded to allow for driver-initiated lane changes - a feature previously limited to higher-end luxury models.
The 2027 Atlas is fitted with the new EA888 Evo5 turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine, producing 282 hp - 13 hp more than the outgoing model and the most powerful engine ever offered in an Atlas. The new engine is anticipated to provide better fuel economy than the previous model. Towing capacity remains at 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) when properly equipped. Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system is standard across the lineup.
The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas is the first time Volkswagen has given this SUV the design and interior refinement that matches its space and capability. The double-stacked LED headlights, illuminated VW badge, and dynamic turn signals give the Atlas a more premium presence. Inside, real wood décor, 30-colour ambient lighting on upper trims, and a completely reimagined cabin layout make this feel like a genuine step up. This is still a practical, family-friendly SUV, but it no longer looks or feels like it's apologizing for it.
